It was a slow day, Chris
asked me to go on a tow. Someone
lost their key and the car had to be towed to the dealer. The key needed
to be programmed to the car isn't that a
racket. Anyways, we disconnected the transmittion linkage and loaded the
car on Chris' black Peterbilt flatbed. On the way back with the car we could see
the giant yellow booms of a towtruck above the trucks in rest area. What ever it was it was big, great chance to get
some pictures for wreckerdriver.com. Would'nt you know I did not have my camera.
Chris said dad was going to
Norwalk on a second call, lets call him and ask if he would stall the
driver long enough for one of us to run back with a camera. That's how
we got these pictures. The driver was also the owner, a real nice guy named
Chester (Chet) Martin. He told us this happens a lot. The old wrecker is
unusually big and people are always taking pictures of it.
When Chris and I went to
get the camera , he told me he recognized that Fentron wrecker. It was
formally owed by Big Wheel towing in Mass. When you have 3 rotators
something has got to go, and the Fentron was sold. Chet the new owner
really likes the wrecker, "there is not much it can't do". The
week before Chet said he winched a loaded TT out of a ditch with just
the Fentron. It is an awesome truck that's for sure. wreckerdriver.com
Fentron build these monster wreckers
to compete with the Holmes 850 mechanical. Fentron wrecker winches and
booms are hydraulic operated. They just came in too late to make a difference.
New builders like Challenger and Century jumped ahead of the older
manufactures in a flash. These once giant swing boom wreckers are now
long time past history. wreckerdriver.com
